Enchantment Equine Rehabilitation Center is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating retired racehorses and performance horses into equine trail partners.

Not Every Horse Finds Their Second Career — But Every Horse Deserves a Second Chance

Many retired performance horses seamlessly move from one competitive career to another. But for others, the path forward isn’t so clear.

Some carry the scars of past injuries. Others have lost the competitive spark. And far too many fall through the cracks — overlooked, neglected, or deemed “unwanted” simply because they can no longer perform.

At EERC, we focus on that forgotten subset — the horses who won’t go on to win more buckles or roses but who still have so much heart to give. We step in before it’s too late, offering the care, rehabilitation, and patient retraining they need to transition into meaningful, lifelong roles — whether as trail partners, companions, or therapy horses.

Because a horse’s worth isn’t measured by what they can win —
but by the life they still have left to live.

Learn More About The Heart of Our Mission

  • They once thundered down the track, chasing victory with every stride. Bred for speed, trained for competition — these Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses gave their all in the name of the sport. But when the racing ends, their story doesn’t have to.

At EERC, we believe in second chances and new beginnings. Our Track to Trail program is dedicated to rehabilitating retired racehorses and gently guiding them toward a new purpose — becoming confident, trusted equine trail partners.

Through patient retraining, compassionate care, and plenty of time to rediscover life beyond the racetrack, these incredible athletes transform into steady companions, ready to explore mountains, meadows, and winding backcountry trails with their new humans by their side.

From finish lines to fresh starts —
We're helping them trade the track for the trail… and love every step of the way.

  • From winning rodeo buckles to winding mountain trails, the Buckles to Backcountry Inititative gives western performance horses a second chance at life beyond the arena. These seasoned athletes once thrilled crowds with their grit, speed, and heart — now they’re discovering peace, purpose, and partnership on the trail.

Through thoughtful rehabilitation, patient retraining, and plenty of wide-open spaces, EERC guides retired rodeo and performance horses into their next chapter as trusted trail companions. It’s not just a new job — it’s a whole new journey.

Because their story doesn’t end at the arena gate.
It just begins... in the backcountry.

  • They’ve carried riders through forests, across streams, and up winding mountain paths. They’ve been the steady hoofbeats beneath countless adventures, the quiet strength behind every journey. Now, these seasoned trail horses are ready for a new kind of role — not as explorers, but as companions.

At EERC, we honor the service and heart these horses have given. As they step into retirement, we work to find them peaceful, loving homes where they can enjoy the slower pace of life. Whether they become pasture pals, therapy animals, or simply a warm presence in the barn, they still have so much to give — just in a gentler way.

They’ve spent their lives taking care of others.
Now it’s our turn to take care of them.
