What We Do

Founded as an extension of Enchantment Equitreks’ work with rescue horses, EERC is a rehabilitation program for racehorses and performance horses in the Southwest.

Our Mission

Enchantment Equine Rehabilitation Center strives to provide retired racehorses and performance horses with meaningful second careers as trail horses. Many racehorses successfully move from the track to the show ring; however, there are numerous quarterhorses and thoroughbreds that may not have the mindset or a minor injury that prevents them from excelling in this type of work. Likewise, many western performance horses retire from the arena after injury setback, but still have the ablity to trasition to a less strenous career. We want to catch those equines before they slip through the cracks and provide professional care and training to become willing and happy trail companions.

Our Method

  • Time. We understand that many of these athletes will need time to transition to a new lifestyle and may be recovering from mild injuries or possibly neglect. We offer the time needed for rehabilitation, instead of setting a timeline.

  • Communication. We open a new way of communicating with our horses through clear body language, precise voice cues, distinct boundaries, and respectful leadership.

  • Building a new skill set. Trail riding requires a whole different aptitude, involving quiet transitions, moving the shoulder, ribs, and hip separately, approaching obstacles thoughtfully, and being confident in varying situations.

  • Adoption. Our ultimate goal is to help the EERC horses find their forever homes. We will be updating the adoption page with horses ready to hit the trail with you.

Our Programs

  • Adoptable Horses
Every Journey Deserves a Loving Destination

Whether they’re just starting down the road to recovery or have already blossomed into confident, trusted trail partners, the horses in our program are all seeking the same thing — a forever home.

Each one has taken a unique path to get here, and with the right match, they’re ready to continue that journey with a new partner by their side. When you adopt, you're not just giving a horse a home — you're becoming part of their healing, their growth, and their future.

Because every horse deserves a second chance — and someone to share the trail ahead.

  • Ambassador Horses
Proof That Second Chances Lead to Great Journeys

Our Ambassador Horses are shining examples of what’s possible with patience, care, and purpose. These incredible equines have graduated from our rehabilitation and training program and now proudly serve as part of the Enchantment Equitreks trail string.

With every sure-footed step on the trail, they show the world that retired and rehabilitated horses aren’t just worthy — they’re exceptional. They lead rides, build trust with riders, and inspire hope for other horses still on their journey.

They’re more than trail horses —
They’re living proof that healing leads to a fulfilling second career.

  • After the Adventure Horses
Because Every Hero Deserves a Peaceful Place to Land

They’ve carried riders through unforgettable adventures, given their hearts on the trail, and stood steady through it all. Now, it’s time for full retirement — and a new kind of purpose.

Our After the Adventure horses may no longer be hitting the trail, but they still have so much love to give. Gentle, wise, and full of heart, these horses make wonderful companions, pasture mates, or therapy partners. They’ve given us their best — and now they’re looking for a soft place to rest, and someone to cherish them in their final chapter.

They may be done riding the trail,
but they’re not done making a difference.

Adopt an After the Adventure horse — and give a lifetime of love to a well-deserving friend.

Our Advocoacy

  • Hands-on clinics. EERC will be offering horsemanship clinics covering the basics of equine/human communication and leadership. These courses are designed to study the horse’s natural language, learn valuable communication skills and techniques, and create a safer and more confident partnership with your horse.

  • Educational Materials. Education is our number one priority in horse rehabilitation advocacy. We will be building a library of online videos and articles from our own trainers and others we have learned from.

  • Partnerships. EERC is proud to partner with Enhantment Equitreks, a horseback riding vaction business with a long standing relationship with horse rescue work, and Enchantment EquiYoga, an equine yoga program. We look forward to expanding our partnership list to include entities such as the New Mexico Horseman’s Association.
